Elders & Deacons
Those called on to provide spiritual leadership for a Presbyterian congregation are called Ruling Elders. The pastors are called Teaching Elders. The word Presbyterian comes from the Greek word presbuteros which means elder. The biblical requirements for Elders are spelled out in the New Testament letters of 1 Timothy 3 and Titus 1.
